Lemur King Gets a Toy…

Update… Wacom ROCKS. Really.
Been saving up for a while to afford a glass-carving setup, but that is a $1200-1800 proposition. I want to do something now, not a year from now.
So, after some great advice, tips, clarification from Weasel and Enas I went out and threw clams down to get one of these little gadgets. That, constant readers, is a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet.
Yes, the name is not remotely “manly” and indeed I will need to snip the corners off my Man Card™ but I’ll get through this. I got through the Clinton Years, so I’ll get through this too.
Just a mini-update.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I am off to make a huge pot of Tom Yum Goong soup. Mmmmm tomyumgoong soup…

How bizarre.
My wife just bought one of those a couple of weeks ago.
/Cue Twilight Zone theme…
And does she like it? I admit, it is taking every fiber of my being to tear myself away from mouse-work, but the rewards are enormous. It’s like living in a 2-D world and suddenly getting 4-D, this whole ability to make pressure one of your input options.
She seems to: she hasn’t put it down for two weeks.
Hey, just dropped a line to an address you left at my site: to discuss crypto.
Oh boy. Bummer dude, you’re a Wacom Widower.
It’s just that they’re so gosh-darned much fun.
Hey, hey! Congrats dude! I’m glad you were able to find someplace local that carried it. I had to order mine online and wait for it to be delivered in 7 to 10 business days. I don’t like delayed gratificaton.
Enjoy!
I handle delayed gratification pretty well. Once I went almost 40 minutes. Any longer than that would just be pointless.
Actually I bought one about a month ago. Wierd…
They are a ton of fun though. Took me a little getting used to at first (I think I deleted about half of my icons on my screen once) but it gives you alot more control than a mouse.
I think that if I were to gripe about anything it would be that it does not play with Inkscape and GIMP, which if I understand it, is an issue with the GTK implementation. It doesn’t effectively aquire mouse-move and mouse-over events and you see these long drawn out latency issues.
Various owners of older Wacom tablets have said they were ok, and it apparently isn’t the big issue in Linux that it is in Winders, so I may start booting in Linux instead of Winders and try it there.
Hm. I get the occasional flakiness with the Intuos at work (I think it has so much overhead from all the stupid virus checkers and network monitors) and you absolutely Can Not play a first person shooter with the tablet (you spin around in place), but I haven’t had any other issues.
It’s a little bit of a drag, putting a pen down and picking it up again — as opposed to a mouse, which stays where you leave it — but you get used to that.
Congratulations! And Bamboo is *very* manly. Think “bamboo slivers under your fingernails.”
No, I imagine BF2 with a Wacom is a bit like putting socks on a chicken.
But specifically, are you using either GIMP or Inkscape with your Intuos at work?
I’m going to try very hard to NOT think about boo splinters under my nails. Brrrrrr.
