Now senators are getting off the sidelines to examine antitrust issues involving the Bowl Champion Series.The current system “leaves nearly half of all the teams in college football at a competitive disadvantage when it comes to qualifying for the millions of dollars paid out every year,” the Senate Judiciary’s subcommittee on antitrust, competition policy and consumer rights said in a statement Wednesday announcing the hearings.

The House Financial Services Committee on Thursday adopted a milder alternative to a bill passed last week that would have taxed away 90 percent of employee bonuses from companies getting federal bailout money. The new legislation would let bailed-out companies pay bonuses as long as the government determines the compensation is not “unreasonable or excessive.”
Soooo, if a particular minor player in congress later decides (while they are PMS’ey or have “little man’s syndrome”) that they want to get pissy about a particular company, they can decide that some compensation is in this case unreasonable or excessive.

Happy Birthday wishes to your wife! Sounds like a lovely dinner — Hope you both enjoy. My b’day was the 13th, and it wasn’t so hot. Night before, I had a flat tire coming home from work and the day of, my dad (94 yrs. old) went in the hospital. But the tire is now fixed (actually it was the wheel, and cost $300), and, better still, Dad is on the mend.
But it coulda been a better birthday!

That does sound like a birthday from hell. I know the odds are 1/365 of a bad event on any given day, but still… A co-worker’s mom died four years ago (yesterday) and his dad died a year ago today – on his own birthday.

Feynman is my hero. Seriously.
His ability to take complex ideas and make them understandable without dumbing them down was incredible.
Plus he had kind of an attitude w/o being a creep. The part he played in the first space shuttle investigation was very… dramatic and poignant.
Why oh why would the terrorists take out the UN? They’re their best advocate (both directions), just not completely open about it.
