Historically speaking, talk of this sort always leads to control of a population. Total control.
Best we nip this in the bud right now.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says terrorists will continue to look for U.S. vulnerabilities, making tighter security standards necessary.
“[Terrorists] are going to continue to probe the system and try to find a way through,” Napolitano said in an interview that aired Monday night on “Charlie Rose.”
“I think the tighter we get on aviation, we have to also be thinking now about going on to mass transit or to trains or maritime. So, what do we need to be doing to strengthen our protections there?”
If this is the cost of my safety, I’ll take my chances with the terrorists.
Two conclusions can be drawn – one, she is a vile totalitarian or two, she is one of these people who is so convinced of her personal powerlessness that she should never be in a position to wield power, because she’s got no natural aptitude for leadership.
Either way, this is bad. Very bad.

This may sound bad, and I apologize if it offends, but I’d rather lose another plane full of people than continue losing civil liberties. At some point, we either value them enough to risk dying for them or we don’t.
I actually agree with you, Nicole.
The question really is: “How would you rather die?”
Would you rather die in a plane living and possibly fighting your enemy to your last, or would you rather die slowly, strangled by your government?
Founding fathers knew how important civil liberties were, which is why they crafted documents when this country got it’s start and did it in such a way that it required a lot of work to change (and not by judicial fiat).
This sort of “safety protocol” shows that the terrorists have already achieved at least one of their goals – to force their enemy to live in fear. Now our government expects us to continue to bow down and be good little sheepeople. It reminds me of Nazi era actions.
I was reading the results of several polls yesterday, saying that the Tea Party people are extremists, that only 30% of the nation claims they believe in the Tea Party “platform”, for lack of a better term. It went on to explain how many moderate conservatives as well as liberals disagreed with the Tea Party, and did everything within its power to paint Tea Party Activists as unreasonable, extremely right-wing conservatives. What they failed to report is how utterly amazing it is that an entire subset of the country stepped forward and said “We believe in these ideals” over a two year period. How, once finally given a venue to say it, nearly one third of our nation jumped forward and said “YOU HAVE BEEN MISSING THE BOAT”.
That should be a wake-up call to any politician, that a new party subset has sprung up for the first time in American history that rivals the mainstream parties. Granted, Tea Party falls within the conservative agenda, but they are much more adamant in saying that our nation has strayed far, far from our founding fathers’ vision for the country.
Okay, back to the TSA. I found a great link of new slogans for them. My favorite so far is:
“Can’t see London, can’t see France, unless we see your underpants.”

I’d love to hear more.
I just realized that I posted a non sequitor. I went from TSA to Tea Party, because TSA embodies what I see wrong with the direction of our country, and for all its faults, the Tea Party illustrates the path I believe our country should be following. I have yet to find someone who agrees with the Tea Party AND thinks these scans and pat downs are anything less than an absolute invasion of our most basic rights to privacy. Don’t they get it? No matter what they do, terrorists will always work to circumvent it.
That is how it works.
Libertarian is the only way to go, IMHO. No nonsense put-the-power-back-in-the-people’s-hands kind of thinking.
She’s a vile totalitarian, LK. Otherwise, had she been in the grasp of helplessness, she wouldn’t have gone after Arpaio like she did.
So, I suppose my little theory about federalizing everything was right…
Far as I’m concerned Arpaio is an honest-to-goodness patriot.
Well, I see all this as a sign that we are getting closer and closer to the breaking point.
What’s not clear is what the breaking point will mean.
Either the breaking point will be followed by a mighty roar as the people finally have had enough and enough of them stand up, grab the bull by the horns, and put the damn thing back in its corral with a much tighter rope on it to keep it from exceeding its bounds again.
Or….
The reaching of the breaking point is followed by a muffled sob as the collective will is broken, and the people quietly submit like the good, obedient sheep that they are.
I hope for the first, but fear the coming of the second.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, Y’ALL!!!
Here’s is hoping you aren’t gorging on Turducken…
Cruel Wife made an awesome turkey dinner and I had to remove my spleen and pancreas just to fit it all in.
I will try turducken with bacon, I promise you.
