Update #2:

Finally, an apology that was actually an apology.  Letterman has earned my respect.

“Thank you. So I would like to apologize, especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke. I’m sorry about it and I’ll try to do better in the future. Thank you very much.”

He actually spent time to work through it and then finished up with the apology.   But he said some good stuff along the way – it shows he has a soul.

“And then I was watching the Jim Lehrer ‘Newshour’ – this commentator, the columnist Mark Shields, was talking about how I had made this indefensible joke about the 14-year-old girl, and I thought, ‘Oh, boy, now I’m beginning to understand what the problem is here. It’s the perception rather than the intent.’ It doesn’t make any difference what my intent was, it’s the perception.

This is in sharp contrast to Cynthia McKinney, Al Sharpton, and Janet Napolitano.

Update:

Not prophesized, but we could have predicted it.  Durbin essesntially engaged in insider trading.

As U.S. stock markets plummeted last September, the Senate’s No. 2 Democrat, Dick Durbin, sold more than $115,000 worth of stocks and mutual-fund shares and used much of the money to invest in Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

The Illinois senator’s 2008 financial disclosure statement shows he sold mutual-fund shares worth $42,696 on Sept. 19, the day after then-Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke urged congressional leaders in a closed meeting to craft legislation to help financially troubled banks. The same day, he bought $43,562 worth of Berkshire Hathaway’s Class B stock, the disclosure shows.

Tsk tsk tsk.

Durbin was doing what a lot of other people were doing, taking a look at their savings” and seeing it “start to tank and trying to preserve some level of wealth by getting out of the market,” said his spokesman, Joe Shoemaker.

Sure, other people would do that, but simply put, he did it after gaining confidential closed-door session information from the Fed.

Whatever information Paulson gave lawmakers wasn’t secret or classified and was disclosed publicly the next day, Shoemaker said.

Practice law in kindergarden much, Shoemaker?  Nice rationalization.

Doesn’t matter.

The Great Prophet Hansen and his acolytes predicted this as well.  Cooling has to happen before it gets warmer.  Or rather, because it is warmer it is cooler.

A chilly June.

Crops languish.

So… which will it be?

frozen_orangesugar-cane-fireA certain number of congress-critters who are allied with the UN are clamoring for change NOW – just as the government medical programs need to be addressed now so do the global warming issues.  Why?  Because without a majority that is filibuster-proof there is no way that conditions would be this favorable to pass unpopular laws.

Scrutiny is the death of all hysterical fanaticism.

This will certainly be billed as “her finest hour”.
