Update:

The lesbian prom story isn’t a happy one for her, even though she was victorious.  It was a pyrrhic victory.

It’s the classic case where even if you are in the right, you had better make sure that you even want to fight, much less win.  The girl took the school district to court and won the right to take a female date to the prom.  The faculty was going to cancel it, but then things got murky.

In an apparent compromise, school district officials said parents would organize a private event with school chaperones that McMillen could attend, tuxedo and all.

McMillen didn’t take her girlfriend because the girl’s parents wouldn’t let her go to the event. McMillen escorted another female instead. She did, however, wear a black tuxedo with a blue green vest.

But when she, her date and a friend showed up at Fulton Country Club, only four other people were there. She left after half an hour.

So there’s a very real possibility of more court issues with the ACLU involved…

It’s unclear who organized the other dance, said Kristy Bennett, ACLU Mississippi legal director. School officials and many of the locals won’t talk about it.

Bennett said “we’re investigating if the prom at the country club was a sham or a decoy.” But Bennett said she doesn’t know if there are any legal ramifications because the majority of students chose to go to an event that didn’t include McMillen.

“It’s evidence that what (school officials) represented to the judge didn’t happen,” Bennett said.

Regardless of your view of right or wrong here, is it so surprising that the rest of the class obviously wasn’t unified behind her?  All they know is that this girl nearly bombed out their prom, too.  She may have been right but it’s not a popular win if it threatens or kills a prom.  Period.

Update #2:

Obama isn’t a Socialist?  Since WHEN?

The United States should consider raising taxes to help bring deficits under control and may need to consider a European-style value-added tax, White House adviser Paul Volcker said on Tuesday

When there are kids in India who are starving, this guy is running out and smashing a brand new iPad?

This kind of cry for attention is indicative of a generation of kids who were all bathed in constant adoration and reassurances – and now seeking the attention wherever they can get it.  The childlike glee at the response to his act (shown on YouTube) is what I’d expect from my four-year old who likes to do things to shock his parents – such as lick his sister’s dinner plate and sneeze on it.

If you are SO pathetic that this is the only way you can get some validation, you need to get into therapy fast before you become really bitter and disillusioned.  You need help and time to prepare for not being as special as you thought you were.
