Well, it is a first crack I started playing with on Saturday.
“Meh.” captures my feelings so far. Way less than “meh,” really. It’s a 3-D render that leaves a lot to be desired for many reasons obvious to render-rats, p-shoppers, and critics alike.
I’ll keep plinking at it.
Alert reader The Dude (aka Wilson) informed me of some global coordinates to put into Google Maps:
30.561265,-92.021019

In some states (commie-leaning American states, sadly) I could get sued by someone who found that image upsetting to their snowflake psyche, but I don’t live in one of those states (yet). So there you go.
At the risk of causing a few snickers, I do like the sheen on the balls.
While I don’t get a lot of commentary on my balls what feedback I do get is overwhelmingly positive.
Excuse me one second while I say this….
Neener neener neener, Weiner.
Anyway, back to the image. I turned on shadows for that paper at one point and then when I tried subsurface scattering turned it off to reduce the growing render times. I also am not thrilled with the grainy shadows. It most certainly resulted from my application of a normal map to the sheeny balls but the shadows should not be so defined with an extended area light. Troubling.
I’m out of practice in my raytracing.
Hmm…..
You could put in the title:
Bhut Jolokia Balls Of Steel Society
BJ Balls Of Steel Society
Curtal – I thought I’d make a nice graphic and then do the titling sort of like a demotivational poster style.
Your “society” thought is a great one. Could we add “survivor” in there somewhere? I think we ought to spell out BJ into Bhut Jolokia to avoid the lowbrow responses that might otherwise arise.
Yeah, you’re right about spelling out BJ. Too much potential for comment, there.
Survivor would be a good addition. I’ve been trying to think of a cool acronym, but no luck. I enjoy clever acronyms, but damned if I can come up with one myself.
On the crop circle, you are a few days late 😉
Yeah, I’m slacking, aren’t I?
My excuse is my Duke Nukem Balls of Steel came in today. Thppppt.
The wording on the bust of Duke is “Carpe Nukem”.
“Carpe Nukem”.
Total fantastic WIN!!!
Crop circle is win.
BJ graphic has potential. Still not gonna induce me to try one, though. Too wussy here. 🙂
Ms. Aggatha assures me that the crop circle is passe – old news – and that I am a has-been. Regardless I loved the crop circle.
Aw, come on, Nicole… it’s just a wittle pepper… a teensy weensy wittle pepper for gosh sakes. See how they watch you with their sad little pepper eyes, and…
OMG, do you hear me? I have lost it.
How about, instead of creating a pair of shiny balls, try this: Apply the metallic effect to the chile peppers themselves. Make a whole string of metallic peppers, a chili ristras.
Or a string of chili-ball-chili-ball-chili-ball-chili-ball-chili and then let the subsurface scattering in the skin of the chili make them glow with health and virility and death (and all in one convenient package!).
Would make a nice rendermoment.
